Places to visit in Mauritius
Port Louis
Port-Louis, the administrative and financial capital of Mauritius is situated in the North West of the Island. It is the only commercial port of the island, it is protected by a range of mountains on one side and bordered by a calm bay on the other. It is one of the main attractions in Mauritius.
The Central Market:
It is a must-stop for tourist and is closely related to the souk. It is a place where you can buy handicrafts. It is the best place to buy handicrafts and even medical plants used by locals to cure every possible ailment.
Champ de Mars:
It is one of the oldest race courses and is an interesting place to visit during the months of May to December. It is at the centre of all life during weekends when races are held and a thrilling experience to live.
Famous Beaches in Mauritius
Baie du Tamarin:
It is situated at the mouth of Tamarin River, in a beautiful landscape is the centre of surfing in Mauritius. Gigantic waves roll to the bay almost throughout the year.
Cap Malheureux:
The beautifully situated graveyard and the chapel on the beach are remarkable for a photo. The name Cap Malheureux arose after the Englishmen landed secretly and expelled the Frenchmen from Mauritius.
Trou-aux-Beaches:
It is one of the most beautiful beaches in Mauritius and is particularly suitable for children and snorkeling. The lovely coral-reefs and a variety of exotic fishes can be easily reached.
The important beaches are Baie du Tombeau, Belle Mare, Blue Bay and Flic-en Flac.
Cruising
A sail over the crystal clear waters to the islets found on the north and east of Mauritius is a memorable experience. The hidden beauties, flat Island and Gabriel Island in the North and l'Ile aux Cerfs in the East should not be missed by anybody.
The sailboats are mainly modern catamarans offering all the amenities for a safe and comfortable cruise around the coastline of Mauritius. The large deck is perfect for sun bathing while admiring the view and the islets are perfect places for swimming and diving. Most of the sailboats in the North are found at Grand Bay or Caudan Waterfront in Port Louis.
